Subject: Updated Guidelines for Yard Pickup – Fall 2025 Bus Transportation
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are writing to inform you of updated yard pickup guidelines for school bus transportation, which will come into effect this fall. These updates are part of our continued efforts to ensure student safety and the efficient operation of our bus routes.
As outlined in the revised School Bus Safety Handbook, available on our website, the school division allows for the pick-up and drop-off of students within their yard, provided the following conditions are met:
Yard Pickup Criteria:
- There must be adequate space in the yard for the bus to turn around without using reverse gear.
- The turnaround must be maintained and passable at all times, including proper snow removal during winter.
- There must be no obstructions in the driving path or turnaround area.
If a yard does not meet these criteria, it does not mean that students will be denied transportation. In such cases, students will be picked up and dropped off at the end of the driveway, rather than within the yard.
Parents are encouraged to contact the Transportation Department by July 15 if:
- You would like help determining whether your yard meets the criteria, or
- You need guidance on where a turnaround should be placed.
